Police search for missing Regensburg woman
As reported by hasepost.de, investigators began excavations on Thursday on a meadow and woodland area near Berg, close to Neumarkt. Work continued on Friday. The search was prompted by new leads in the case of Kerstin Lee Langley from Regensburg, who has been missing for 19 years.
Police deployed an excavator during the dig. However, no concrete findings had been reported by Friday. The public prosecutor and criminal police no longer rule out violent crime.
19 years of investigation without results
Langley disappeared in the summer of 2007. Her brother reported her missing. Her partner at the time stated that she had separated from him and driven off in a dark car with Deggendorf registration plates with an older acquaintance. This man has never been traced. Suspicion against her partner could not be substantiated.
In December 2024, the case was featured in the ZDF television programme "Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst". A self-proclaimed psychic from North Rhine-Westphalia had sent an email naming a possible discovery site in the Paintner Forest west of Regensburg. The subsequent search, involving approximately 40 emergency personnel, was unsuccessful – the remains found apparently belonged to a dead animal.
The Bavarian state criminal police office has offered a reward of €10,000 for information leading to clarification. Police did not disclose the source of the current leads for the excavations.
