Four lorries completely destroyed in fire in Rüdersdorf – police investigating arson

Major fire at Cemex site

Four lorries with silo trailers were completely destroyed on Saturday when a major fire broke out on the site of building materials manufacturer Cemex in Herzfelde (municipality of Rüdersdorf, Brandenburg). According to BILD, the first emergency calls came in around 21.53; flames were already shooting metres high into the night sky.

The driver cabs were completely destroyed. The enormous heat even burst the diesel tanks and severely damaged further vehicles as well as a silo trailer on the company site. The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the Cemex works. After around one hour the fire was under control, but the operation continued for several hours. According to initial reports, there were no injuries.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. Brandenburg's criminal police are investigating whether a technical defect, arson or an attack was behind the fire. The exact extent of material damage remains unclear. Cemex Deutschland AG produces cement, concrete, gravel, sand and chippings at the site near Berlin.
