According to n-tv, a 60-year-old in Berngau is suspected of shooting two employees of the Neumarkt District Office. The government employees – a 54-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man – were conducting a routine gun control check on Thursday afternoon. They were to verify whether the man was storing his weapons in accordance with regulations.

Around 2 p.m., several emergency calls were received by police and rescue services. Witnesses reported gunshots. The armed suspect then barricaded himself in a residential building. Police deployed a large contingent including a special operations unit, an armoured vehicle and a police helicopter. Officers made telephone contact with the man and attempted over an extended period to persuade him to surrender.

The suspect refused to give up without resistance. During the night, police conducted an assault in which explosive devices were also deployed. The 60-year-old was slightly wounded by shots to the leg and arrested. He has since been receiving medical treatment. Regarding the motive for the shooting, police stated that no information can currently be provided.
