Wind-power fraudster Hendrik Holt escapes from Berlin prison during furlough
Hendrik Holt, sentenced to almost nine years in prison, failed to return from an approved furlough on Tuesday. The Osnabrück public prosecutor's office is searching for the 36-year-old.

Hendrik Holt, convicted of wind-power fraud, is at large. According to n-tv, the 36-year-old failed to return on Tuesday from an approved furlough in the open prison system in Berlin to the correctional facility. "There are now facts in evidence that suggest we must assume he has fled," said a spokesman for the Osnabrück public prosecutor's office.
Holt is now the subject of a public manhunt. The agency spokesman declined to provide details about the ongoing investigation. Holt is from Haselünne in the Emsland region.
In 2022, Osnabrück Regional Court sentenced him in multiple proceedings to a total prison sentence of almost nine years. The charges included organised fraud, bribery and forgery.
Holt had allegedly sold allegedly existing wind parks to foreign power companies that did not actually exist. Furthermore, he bribed foreign diplomats in order to protect himself from German law enforcement authorities with the help of a diplomatic passport.
