Investigators first received help from a resident who noticed two suspicious persons in his garden a few hours after the crime and immediately alerted police. Subsequently, numerous tips came in from members of the public. The investigation received additional momentum through social media: several users contacted Osnabrück police after an alleged perpetrator reportedly distributed a video via Snapchat shortly after the robbery.
On Monday evening, a juvenile suspect appeared voluntarily at an Osnabrück police station together with his mother. On the following Tuesday morning, further investigations brought a second juvenile into the focus of officers. Following searches and initial interrogations, suspicion against him was strengthened.
Police explicitly acknowledged the support of residents in Hasbergen. In addition to numerous tips, residents actively assisted in the search. A dog owner also discovered possible evidence during a walk and reported it to the emergency services.
