137 kg of hash seized in Ikast: three foreign men remanded in custody
Three foreign men aged 36, 42 and 46 have been remanded in custody until 2 October following a seizure of 137.8 kg of hash in Ikast. All three deny guilt.
Three arrested after massive hash seizure in Ikast
On Friday afternoon, Central and Western Jutland Police seized 137.8 kilograms of hash in Ikast. According to Ekstra Bladet, the initial explanation was that the find occurred more or less by chance in a car – but that version is now under revision.
– The hash was found at an address where these three foreign men were also found, who are believed to be connected to the hash, said prosecutor Jacob Erichsen from Central and Western Jutland Police to TV MIDTVEST following Saturday's bail hearing.
The three men are aged 36, 42 and 46 respectively. They are all charged under section 191 of the criminal code, which concerns drug trafficking on a large scale for significant payment or to several persons. All three denied guilt at the bail hearing, but chose not to appeal the remand decision to the high court. They are remanded in custody until 2 October.
The bail hearing was held behind closed doors in the interests of the investigation. However, TV MIDTVEST was present when the remand decision was announced at an open court hearing.
The prosecutor declined to state whether police had been working on the case for an extended period, and likewise refused to disclose the nationality of the remanded men.
According to the judge's reasoning, it cannot be ruled out that there are further suspects at large. Jacob Erichsen explained that large drug seizures typically involve many persons and often have connections to criminal environments.
– Generally when we see such a large quantity of narcotics, whether it is hash or another substance, there are often many persons involved. There is often something with links to criminal environments, and therefore there will often be a risk of interference, said Erichsen.
The prosecutor declined to comment on who was supposed to have taken possession of the hash, and emphasised that police now need space to investigate the case.
