13 years' imprisonment for Nørrebro shooting – hit wrong victim
The Eastern High Court has increased the sentence for 25-year-old Haci Camur Palm to 13 years' imprisonment for attempted murder during a gun duel in Copenhagen.
High Court increases sentence following gun duel on public street
The Eastern High Court has on Tuesday sentenced 25-year-old Haci Camur Palm to 13 years' imprisonment for attempted murder – one year more than Copenhagen City Court imposed last year. This is reported by Politiken.
The case stems from a shooting on Lundtoftegade on Nørrebro in Copenhagen on 23 May 2024. Palm met another man at a local café, and the two agreed to leave the premises to settle a dispute on the street. Both were armed with pistols and fired shots at each other at a distance of five to ten metres.
Palm was himself hit in the arm during the exchange of gunfire. His opponent escaped unscathed and fled the scene. A third victim – a bystander – was hit by gunfire in the upper body, which has resulted in an additional conviction for reckless endangerment.
During the trial in both city and high court, Palm maintained that he acted in self-defence and should therefore be acquitted. Both instances have rejected this view.
Prosecutor Pernille Rahbek from the Copenhagen State Prosecutor's Office requested a sentence of at least 13 years' imprisonment and subsequently expressed satisfaction with the outcome. The court placed particular emphasis on the fact that the shooting took place on a public street.
The opponent whom Palm shot at is likewise charged with attempted murder. He is internationally wanted and remains at large.
