18-year-old arrested for complicity in murder with hand grenade on Amager
An 18-year-old Danish citizen has been arrested and charged with complicity in murder following a hand grenade explosion on Amager. A 22-year-old woman in the case has been released.
18-year-old brought before court in pre-trial detention hearing following fatal grenade explosion
Copenhagen Police arrested an 18-year-old Danish citizen on Wednesday morning and charged him with complicity in the murder of a 31-year-old man who died following a hand grenade being thrown into a courtyard on Kurvemagerstien on Amager. The police announced this via Police Update, as reported by Politiken.
The 18-year-old will be brought before a court for a pre-trial detention hearing at 13.00 on Wednesday. The prosecution will request that the hearing be held behind closed doors, which means the charges will be read aloud in public, but the police's evidence and any statement from the accused will not be disclosed to the public.
Concurrently, the police announced that a 22-year-old woman who was arrested and remanded in custody in the case last week has been released. She remains charged with possession of a hand grenade, but her release is due to insufficient grounds for continued detention.
The explosion took place at approximately 18.00 on Monday of last week. The 31-year-old man sustained serious injuries and died on Wednesday evening of the same week. Ekstra Bladet has reported that the victim is a father with no connection to criminal circles.
Since the explosion, the investigation has led to a number of arrests. On Tuesday of last week, Copenhagen Police announced that two men aged 19 and 20 respectively had been arrested – and in the pre-trial detention hearing, it emerged that the 20-year-old is believed to have thrown the grenade. The same evening, two women aged 22 and 26 were arrested, charged with having handed the hand grenade to the 20-year-old in a car park at a Netto supermarket in Skovlunde. On Friday, police arrested two further men aged 24 and 30 respectively, charged with having handed the grenade to the women at an address in Vejle.
All those brought before a court so far have denied guilt.
The case is being investigated by Copenhagen Police's organised crime unit. The police have not yet commented on a possible motive.
