Copenhagen West Police are investigating two separate incidents on Amagermotorvejen near the exit to Avedøre Holme as deliberate stone-throwing attacks against moving vehicles, according to police statements to TV 2 Nyheder.
The first incident occurred on the night before Sunday, when police received a report of a vehicle struck by a stone. The car's windscreen was smashed, but no one was injured. Shortly before 22:29 on Wednesday evening, another vehicle was struck by a stone at the same location. The car sustained superficial damage, and again everyone escaped unharmed.
Following Wednesday's incident, police appealed for witnesses to come forward — particularly people who may have seen anything suspicious at the bridge or in the area leading up to the incidents.
"For example, it could be witnesses who saw something suspicious in the area in the time leading up to the incidents or heard someone boast about the events," said Vice Police Inspector Morten Rosendal from Copenhagen West Police in a press statement.
Rosendal emphasised that police regard the case as very serious.
"A stone-throw at a vehicle on a motorway can create a very dangerous situation. I want to emphasise that the form of endangerment that a stone-throw can entail is taken very seriously by police," he said.
The cases evoke memories of a tragic incident from August 2016, when a 33-year-old German woman died when the car she was travelling in with her family was struck by a 30-kilogram concrete block thrown from a motorway bridge on Funen. Police have since worked to solve the case without success. As recently as spring, Funen Police sought help in solving it, which over the summer resulted in approximately 70 new approaches — half of them resulting in new investigative steps, according to Vice Police Inspector Jesper Weimar Pedersen from Funen Police to TV2 Fyn.
