Accused of stealing 35 televisions from Bayaguana Olympic Village released on bail

The Permanent Attention Court of Monte Plata released two accused of removing 35 televisions from the Bayaguana Olympic Village under conditional liberty, according to elnacional.com.do. The ruling was issued on 12 September 2026, following payment of bail whose amount has not yet been determined.
The accused, identified as Álvaro Martín Hubiera Robles, alias "Buligui", and Walfer David Reyes Concepción, were subjected to additional precautionary measures: prohibition from leaving the country and periodic presentation before authorities.
The stolen televisions were intended to be donated by former deputy Juan Hubieres to athletes from Bayaguana who won medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. Of the 35 stolen units, the National Police managed to recover 21, which were placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.
The recovery of the equipment resulted from joint investigative work between police officers and the Public Ministry, under the supervision of General Pedro Ignacio Matos Pérez, head of the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM). During the proceedings, two vehicles—a Jeep Patriot and a Chevrolet—were also seized, allegedly used to transport the televisions.
Four other people remain under investigation to clarify details of the theft.
