The body of Zaidy Fragoso Lizardo, 17 years old and known as Michel, was found on Friday morning on calle A in the Alma Rosa sector of Santo Domingo Este, according to diariolibre.com. The corpse was located behind a commercial establishment on Carretera Mella.

The examination of the body determined that the teenager died as a result of hypovolaemic shock caused by the injuries she had sustained.

As part of the investigation, agents from the Division of Crimes and Offences Against Persons (Homicides), based in Los Mina, arrested Luis Miguel Santiago Guzmán, 40 years old, pursuant to a court order. He is identified as the suspected person responsible for the injuries that caused the young woman's death. The National Police announced the detention on Sunday.

During the enquiries, Homicides officers and forensic police technicians seized clothing items that the detainee allegedly wore at the time of the incident. One of the items bore stains of a reddish fluid, presumed to be blood.

Additionally, a screwdriver was found in the vehicle used by the arrested man, evidence that will be submitted to the corresponding forensic analyses.

The authorities reviewed images from surveillance cameras, in which a white Mazda Demio vehicle linked to the detainee was seen during the early hours of the incident.

The National Police stated that investigations are continuing in coordination with the Public Ministry, with the aim of establishing the exact circumstances of the death and determining the motive for the crime. Santiago Guzmán will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for the corresponding legal proceedings.
