The director of the National Police, Major General Ernesto Rodríguez García, visited on Saturday Corporal Rafael Gómez de la Cruz, a member of the tactical SWAT unit, who sustained a gunshot wound during a raid carried out on Friday night in Santiago, according to reports from n.com.do.

Medical care for the wounded officer was provided at the Padre Fantino Medical Centre, located in La Vega. Following the clinic visit, Rodríguez García accompanied Gómez de la Cruz to his residence and spent time with his family members as part of his recovery process.

According to the National Police, the incident occurred at approximately 10:48 p.m. in the Ensanche Espaillat sector, when agents from the Regional Investigation Directorate (DICRIM), in coordination with the SWAT unit, were executing judicial order number 2026-AJ0088600.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police team was attacked with gunfire by Isaac de Jesús Fernández Reyes, alias "Guccito", aged 21. The agents repelled the aggression and Fernández Reyes died during the incident.

The institution clarified that the visit by the general director responds to the institutional support provided to officers affected in the course of operations.
