Deadly robbery on Duarte highway: one arrested and another at large for killing motorcyclist
A man was shot and killed at km 14 of the Duarte highway during a motorcycle robbery. Police arrested one of the suspects; the other remains at large.
One arrested and one at large following Josué Méndez's murder on the Duarte highway
According to ultimasnoticias.com.do, the National Police arrested one of two men identified as suspected responsible for the murder of Josué Méndez Gómez, 43, which occurred during a robbery at kilometre 14 of the Duarte highway in Santo Domingo.
The arrested man, identified as Wander de la Cruz Polanco, alias "Mello", 28, voluntarily surrendered to authorities. The second implicated individual, Luis Antony Valdez, alias "El Mello de la Esterlina", remains at large and is identified as the one who allegedly fired the shot that caused the victim's death.
Officers from the Homicide Division of Santo Domingo Oeste identified both men through images captured by security cameras at the scene.
Méndez Gómez died from a gunshot wound. The robbers stole a blue Bajaj Platina motorcycle from him, which was later found abandoned at kilometre 20 of the same highway.
The National Police is maintaining active search efforts for the suspect at large to clarify the circumstances of the crime and bring those responsible before the Public Prosecutor's Office.
