Dicrim major shot during pursuit receives visit from police chief

Major General Ernesto Rodríguez García, director general of the National Police, visited Major Andrés Pascual at his residence in Canaan, Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte, to check on his recovery after being wounded during the pursuit of the suspect known as "Hansel Boca Negra", according to acento.com.do.

Pascual, 54 years old and a member of the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim), was shot in the head—with entry and exit wounds—on 20 September whilst participating in operations to locate the suspect. Rodríguez García expressed his institutional support and wished him a speedy recovery.

The pursuit was triggered after the Police identified "Hansel Boca Negra" as the suspected person responsible for shooting Corporal William Antonio Jesús Heredia, 26 years old, also assigned to the Dicrim, in an incident recorded in the Los Palmares sector, Sabana Perdida. Following the attack on Major Pascual, the authorities deployed investigation teams and operational units in Sabana Perdida and neighbouring areas. Both wounded officers were transferred to health centres to receive medical attention.

Five days later, on 25 September, "Hansel Boca Negra" died during a police intervention in Samaná, where he was being sought on pending arrest warrants. According to the Police account, the man confronted officers when they attempted to arrest him; a Glock pistol was seized during the procedure.

At the meeting with Pascual, Rodríguez García reiterated the institution's support for members of the National Police who are affected in the performance of their duties and emphasised the importance of accompanying them during their recovery processes.
