DNCD seizes 269,664 kg of drugs in six years, record figure for Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic sets historical records in fight against drug trafficking
The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) seized 269,664 kilogrammes of drugs during the six years of the current administration, more than double the 123,000 kilogrammes recorded in the previous 32 years. This was reported by presidencia.gob.do, citing statements from Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, president of the DNCD, before the weekly agenda led by President Luis Abinader.
The official presented a detailed report during the day dedicated to analysing drug trafficking and organised crime. "This represents an annual average of 44,581 kilogrammes compared to 13,859 kilogrammes from previous administrations," Cabrera Ulloa declared.
Operational and financial figures
The DNCD president detailed results on four fronts:
- Confiscated assets: more than 6,000 million pesos immobilised from organised crime.
- Major operations: more than 33 interventions against transnational drug trafficking structures.
- Micro-trafficking: the annual average of illicit substances removed from neighbourhoods increased from 459,000 grammes to more than 16 million grammes.
- Territorial deployment: close to 279,000 operations carried out by the DNCD so far this year, with 24-hour operability alongside the National Police.
Cabrera Ulloa attributed these results to support from President Abinader to the members of the institution.
Professionalisation and international cooperation
Through Decree 301-23, the anti-narcotics agent career was established, which entailed a 159 per cent salary increase for civilian personnel, a guaranteed retirement plan through the Armed Forces, and mandatory promotions on the entity's anniversary.
In technological matters, the DNCD incorporated body cameras to make procedures transparent and created a specialised unit in synthetic drugs and cyber drug trafficking, according to Cabrera Ulloa.
The institution maintains permanent joint operations with the DEA, the United States Southern Command, and the Spanish Civil Guard, alliances which the vice admiral linked directly to institutional trust accumulated during this period.
