DNCD seizes more than 13,500 grammes of drugs and detains 45 people across three provinces

The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), together with the Public Ministry and with support from the National Police, carried out a series of operations in Santiago, Espaillat and Santo Domingo Norte that resulted in 45 arrests and the seizure of 13,551.5 grammes of suspected illicit substances, according to infobae.com.

The seized material included 12,140.6 grammes of suspected cocaine, 1,335.3 grammes of suspected marijuana and 75.6 grammes of suspected crack. In addition to the drugs, the authorities confiscated two firearms, eight scales, two motorcycles, three mobile phones, five surveillance cameras, a bulletproof vest, three radios and RD$23,170 (approximately USD 391.45) in cash.

The overall deployment covered 235 surveillance and intervention operations and seven raids. All detainees, substances and further evidence remained in the custody of the Public Ministry in the respective jurisdictions for the corresponding legal proceedings.

Santiago: 10 detainees and more than 3,500 grammes seized

In Santiago, 90 operations and five raids were conducted in sectors such as Los Pepines, Pueblo Nuevo, El Ejido, Cienfuegos, Gurabo, Ensanche Bermúdez, La Trinitaria and Villa Olga, as well as in areas of the municipality of Navarrete, including La Altagracia, Falpo, San José and Los Girasoles.

The interventions resulted in 10 arrests. Officers seized 3,377 grammes of suspected cocaine distributed in 244 portions, 210 grammes of suspected marijuana in 115 wrappings and 40.3 grammes of suspected crack in 66 doses. Also confiscated were RD$11,750 (approximately USD 198.51) and two scales used for weighing the substances.

Espaillat: 25 arrested and surveillance equipment seized

The Espaillat division executed 97 operations and two raids aimed at dismantling local micro-trafficking networks in sectors such as Maco Tibio, Don Bosco, El Bolsillo, Los López, Sal si Puedes, La Zurza, Villa Bartola, Quija Quieta, Milito and Paso de Moca.

In that jurisdiction, 25 people were detained. The consolidated total of substances reached 2,062 grammes: 1,199 grammes of suspected cocaine, 828 grammes of marijuana in 26 portions and 35 grammes of crack in 25 portions. Among the confiscated items were three scales, two motorcycles, a nine-millimetre calibre pistol with magazine and five rounds, five surveillance cameras, three radios and RD$5,970 (approximately USD 100.86) in cash.

Santo Domingo Norte: largest drug volume of the operation

Santo Domingo Norte recorded the largest amount of suspected drugs seized during the proceedings. There, 48 control operations were carried out with 10 arrests, in neighbourhoods such as Los Platanitos, Las 5 Esquinas de Guaricano, Sabana Centro, El Cachón, Hong Kong, Villa Blanca, La Caña, La Barquita, Barrio Nuevo, La Javilla in Sabana Perdida, Punta in Villa Mella, La Ceiba de La Victoria and La Solana.

Officers confiscated 7,563.5 grammes of suspected cocaine and 296.8 grammes of suspected marijuana. Among the seized items were three scales, three mobile phones, RD$5,450 (approximately USD 92.08) in cash and a homemade firearm of Chilean type.

The Joint Task Force indicated that it will maintain operations against narcotic distribution networks and the search for the alleged leaders of those structures.
