Extradition from Colombia in sexual abuse case in Samaná
The National Police received Jorge Luis Mojica Ortiz on Monday, extradited from Bogotá, Colombia, over his alleged involvement in a case of sexual abuse of a minor in the province of Samaná, according to acento.com.do.
Mojica Ortiz arrived in the country on a flight from the Colombian capital and was received at Las Américas International Airport, Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez, by agents assigned to the Interpol Santo Domingo Directorate.
The defendant was sought under an International Red Notice for Search and Arrest, by virtue of judicial order no. 604-2024-SAUT-00789, issued on 3 August 2024 by the Instruction Court of the Judicial District of Samaná.
The facts under investigation date back to 23 December 2021, the date on which the alleged sexual assault against the minor allegedly occurred.
Following his handover to Dominican authorities, Mojica Ortiz was transferred to the Investigation Division (Dicrim) of the National Police in Samaná, where he remains in custody for the corresponding legal proceedings.
The National Police indicated that the extradition was carried out through international cooperation mechanisms employed to locate and bring to the country persons required by Dominican justice.
