Two young men with arrest warrants issued by the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) surrendered on Monday at the headquarters of the National Police in Santo Domingo, according to acento.com.do. The individuals involved are Manuel Ezequiel Lebrón Mariano, aged 25, and his nephew Yorman Manuel Pérez, aged 18, both residents of the Camboya sector in Barahona.
The surrender was arranged by their legal representative, lawyer Gilbert Matos, who accompanied the young men before the authorities so they could answer the accusations made against them, related to several criminal incidents recorded in Barahona province.
Before presenting themselves in the capital, the young men had gone to police facilities in Barahona with family members. At that time they declared that they had been sought for several days and that they were unaware of the specific accusations against them.
One of them stated that agents had reportedly visited his family members demanding that he turn himself in. He added that they attempted to present themselves before other authorities and human rights representatives, but were allegedly not received at any of those instances.
For his part, Yorman Manuel Pérez stated that he would be being linked to an incident involving a vehicle that he had rented and which was subsequently attacked with gunfire. The young man denied having knowledge of his participation in that incident.
After moving to Santo Domingo, both were finally received by the authorities and were placed at the disposal of the corresponding agencies. The case remains under investigation whilst the authorities carry out legal procedures to establish the circumstances of the incidents and the responsibilities that might correspond.
