Two men wanted by justice die in DICRIM operations
Two men classified as "highly dangerous" criminals died on Saturday following exchanges of gunfire with investigation patrols in Santo Domingo Este and San Cristóbal, according to infobae.com. Both were wanted for robberies and other offences and died in separate incidents during arrest operations carried out by the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM).
The authorities identified the deceased as Juan Carlos Ventura García, 39 years old, and Edgar Yomerbi Pinales, alias "El Jefe", 26.
The case of "El Chulito" in Villa Duarte
The first incident occurred in the Los Parados alley, in Villa Duarte, Santo Domingo Este. DICRIM agents were carrying out an operation to detain Ventura García, known as "El Chulito", who had two arrest warrants for alleged involvement in robberies, criminal association and aggravated robbery.
According to the police report, the man attempted to evade the investigators and opened fire with a 9-millimetre Caranday pistol with illegible serial numbering. The patrol returned fire and Ventura García was wounded. He was taken to Doctor Darío Contreras Hospital, where he died whilst receiving medical attention. The weapon was seized at the scene and remained under analysis by the Scientific Police.
"El Jefe" killed in San Cristóbal
The second case took place in the El Peñal sector, in Canastica, San Cristóbal province. Edgar Yomerbi Pinales was located there, whom the Police identified as the alleged leader of a gang dedicated to the armed robbery of motorcycles.
Pinales was wanted under arrest warrant number 01541-2026-AJOR-03387, for alleged violation of articles 379 and 382 of the Dominican Criminal Code. The authorities also linked him with several motorcycle robberies recorded in September on the 6 de Noviembre motorway and nearby areas.
According to the official report, when surrounded by members of the Regional Investigation Sub-Directorate, the young man attempted to escape and fired at the agents. The investigators returned fire and Pinales was wounded. He was taken to Regional Teaching Hospital Doctor Juan Pablo Pina, where he subsequently died. A 9-millimetre Ruger pistol with illegible serial numbering and a Jincheng 100 motorcycle were seized at the scene.
Context of rising violence and operations
The National Police reported that it is keeping the investigations open to establish the precise circumstances of both incidents. The institution operates in a context of increasing pressure: in September at least 49 deaths were recorded in exchanges of gunfire with authorities.
The National Police currently holds 53,877 outstanding arrest and capture warrants for offences ranging from domestic violence to homicides, robberies, fraud and drug trafficking.
