Two suspected criminals killed in police confrontations in Santiago and San Pedro
Two men identified as "Yiro" and "Niño" died following alleged shootouts with officers in San Pedro de Macorís and Santiago. Both were wanted pursuant to court orders.
Two killed in separate police operations in Santiago and San Pedro de Macorís
Two suspected criminals died on Saturday, 19 September in separate incidents during police interventions in San Pedro de Macorís and Santiago de los Caballeros, according to the National Police. Elnacional.com.do reports that both were wanted pursuant to court orders at the time of the incidents.
The deceased were identified as Jorge Luis Tissol Báez, alias "Yiro", 34 years old, and Cristofer Almonte Díaz, alias "Niño", 19 years old.
"Yiro" dies in San Pedro de Macorís following raid in La Habana sector
In San Pedro de Macorís, officers from the Southeast Regional Subdirectorate, accompanied by a Public Ministry representative, executed a search warrant No. 2026-AJ0080852 on Saturday night in the La Habana sector, Consuelo municipality, searching for firearms and controlled substances.
According to the police's preliminary report, Tissol Báez fired several shots at the officers as they entered the residence, which the officers returned. The man was wounded and was transferred to the Dr. Antonio Musa Regional Teaching Hospital, where he died while receiving medical care.
At the scene, one Bersa Thunder 9 model pistol, serial number 744132, with four cartridges, and three 9-millimetre casings were seized.
The authorities stated that "Yiro" was wanted pursuant to several court orders and allegedly was part of the criminal structure "Los Fantasmas", which is under investigation for alleged involvement in contract killing, criminal association, drug trafficking, kidnapping and aggravated robbery. Among the orders against him was No. 973-2025-EMES-05136, related to an incident on 6 March 2025 in La Caleta, Boca Chica, where he allegedly caused the death of Agustín Alcántara Lora, alias "Agustín", and wounded a woman.
"Niño" dies in Santiago following shootout on Avenida Circunvalación Norte
In Santiago de los Caballeros, Cristofer Almonte Díaz was wanted pursuant to arrest warrant No. 2026-AJ0070020-001, issued on 16 August 2026 for his alleged involvement in the aggravated homicide of Amaury Saviñón, which occurred two days earlier in that city. He was also wanted for alleged violations of Law 631-16 on Arms, Ammunition and Related Materials.
According to the police version, Almonte Díaz was travelling with two other individuals in a Hyundai Sonata vehicle on Avenida Circunvalación Norte when he detected the presence of officers from the Regional Investigation Subdirectorate (Dicrim). The young man allegedly fired several shots at the officers, who returned fire.
Almonte Díaz was wounded and was transferred to the José María Cabral y Báez Regional University Hospital, where he died whilst receiving medical assistance. The other two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, the authorities reported.
At the scene, a black-coloured pistol was seized, along with a mobile telephone, a cap, an electronic cigarette and a .380 calibre casing.
Investigations ongoing
The bodies of both men were transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding procedures. The weapons and other evidence seized in the two cases will be subjected to the appropriate analyses as part of the ongoing investigations, the National Police specified.
