Voluntary surrender for 2014 homicide in Santiago

Two men with outstanding arrest warrants presented themselves voluntarily before the Homicide Division of DICRIM in Santiago de los Caballeros, according to reports from n.com.do. They are Aníbal Taveras Luzón and Argenis Alejandro Taveras Genao, wanted for their alleged participation in the homicide of Alejandro Jean Peña Guzmán, which occurred on 26 January 2014 in the La Herradura sector.

Both face charges for criminal association and homicide. The surrender took place through their legal representative and in the presence of journalists, following repeated calls from authorities for them to present themselves voluntarily. They now remain in police custody and will be turned over to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Upward trend in voluntary surrenders

The case adds to a series of voluntary surrenders recorded in recent weeks throughout the country. According to the National Police's latest consolidated report, 195 people surrendered between 17 August and 6 October 2026, of which 49 were wanted in homicide cases. In just the first six days of October alone, 42 surrenders were recorded, five of them related to violent deaths.

Among recent cases is Yeicol Carmona Martínez, alias "Maneo", who surrendered on 30 September after being wanted for his alleged participation in an incident in La Victoria, where two people were shot and wounded.

On 7 October, José Nicolás Gómez Ortiz, alias "Miller", and Josué Jiménez, alias "Randy", surrendered over a case in Los Mina, Santo Domingo Este, in which a 20-year-old youth died and another man was wounded.

The National Police has not published a new consolidated report after 6 October, so the official figure of 195 does not necessarily include all surrenders recorded after that date.
