Spanish citizen arrested in Punta Cana in international anti-drug operation

Jonathan Yera Pozo, a 41-year-old Spanish citizen, was detained in Punta Cana, in the east of the Dominican Republic, according to eldebate.com. Authorities had him wanted for his alleged involvement in an organisation dedicated to drug trafficking and money laundering.

The Dominican Public Ministry announced on Friday that the arrest was carried out during a search ordered by the Supreme Court of Justice for the purposes of extradition to Spain.

The detention is part of an international operation called "Fast Lap", which included 42 simultaneous raids in several countries to dismantle a transnational criminal structure, according to details provided by the Public Ministry in an official statement.

During the search of the property and several vehicles, agents seized mobile phones, electronic equipment, three cold wallets for cryptocurrencies and seven watches, including several Rolexes, as well as jewellery.

Authorities also seized a motor vehicle, documents and vehicle ownership certificates, contracts related to loans and real estate, national and international bank cards and approximately 13,000 dollars in cash.

Yera Pozo remains in Dominican custody whilst medical evaluations and legal procedures related to his extradition process are completed.

The operation involved Dominican agencies alongside agents from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Spanish Police, the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Spanish Civil Guard, the Global Drug Information Network (GDIN) and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol).
