Jonathan Yera Pozo, a 41-year-old Spanish citizen, was detained in the tourist resort of Punta Cana in the east of the Dominican Republic, according to theobjective.com. Authorities have linked him to an organisation engaged in drug trafficking and money laundering.
The Dominican Public Ministry stated that the detention was carried out pursuant to an order from the Supreme Court of Justice with the aim of extradition to Spain. The operation was carried out during a search of the property where the suspect was found.
The arrest is part of the international operation Fast Lap, which included 42 simultaneous raids in several countries with the aim of dismantling a transnational criminal structure.
During the search of the residence and several vehicles, authorities seized mobile phones, electronic equipment, three cold wallets for cryptocurrencies and seven watches, including several Rolexes, as well as jewellery. A vehicle, documents and property certificates, contracts linked to loans and properties, national and international bank cards and approximately 13,000 dollars in cash were also confiscated.
Yera Pozo remains in the custody of Dominican authorities whilst medical evaluations and legal procedures relating to the extradition process are carried out.
The operation involved Dominican agencies along with agents from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Spanish Police, the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Spanish Civil Guard, the Global Information Network on Drugs (GDIN) and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol).
