José Ignacio Rodríguez, alias "Ignacio", 48, died Thursday evening after being wounded during an alleged confrontation with agents from the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) in the Pastor Bella Vista sector of Santiago, according to listindiario.com.
The National Police reported that Rodríguez was actively being sought through judicial arrest warrants for his alleged involvement in several criminal acts, including vehicle theft, and that he had accumulated eight police records spanning different years.
According to the police report, agents were conducting an operation to locate the wanted man when he, upon noticing the police presence, allegedly opened fire on the uniformed officers. DICRIM members repelled the action and Rodríguez was wounded. He was taken to a health centre in the sector, where he died while receiving medical assistance.
During processing of the scene, members of the Scientific Police seized a .38 calibre revolver with a spent casing in the cylinder, a casing of the same calibre, a grey Toyota Corolla vehicle reported as stolen, and other personal effects.
The body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding procedures.
