The National Police of the Dominican Republic has on record 53,877 outstanding arrest warrants against suspected offenders sought by the courts, according to diariodigitalrd.com reported this Thursday. The offences range from domestic violence to cyber crimes and homicides.
The information was presented by police spokesman, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, at a press conference which also included the director of the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM), General Pedro Ignacio Matos Pérez, and the deputy director, Colonel Fulvio Grullón Penso.
Domestic violence leads the register
The category with the highest number of warrants is domestic violence, with 17,635 cases. This is followed by robbery, with 11,587 records; physical assaults, with 5,951; and sexual assaults, with 4,018.
The database also contains 2,761 warrants associated with cyber crimes, 2,681 linked to homicides and 1,630 corresponding to threats, in addition to other criminal categories.
Digital platform facilitates judicial coordination
Pesqueira explained that the platform allows users to consult photographs, identity documents, requesting courts and the crimes associated with each warrant. According to him, these tools support coordination with the Public Ministry and other institutions within the justice system.
People with multiple warrants
During the presentation, the National Police identified 73 people with more than one active arrest warrant, some with more than 40 records. Among them is José Luis Mateo Medina, with 41 records, and Julio Antonio Mejía Martínez, with 32. A further 485 people have accumulated more than five records in the system.
In the section for those wanted for homicide, the institution reported a total of 2,548 people registered in that category.
Escapes since 2025
The National Police also provided figures on escapes by persons deprived of liberty occurring since 2025: a total of 37 cases were counted. Of those, 21 were recaptured, 12 remain pending capture and four died under different circumstances.
