The National Police are pursuing a second person connected to the robbery carried out at the residence of merengue singer Gilberto Julián Sarante Perdomo, known as Julián Oro Duro, in the Brisa Oriental VI sector, Santo Domingo Este, according to elnuevodiario.com.do reported on Wednesday. His wife, Zeneida Socorro Castillo, died in the incident, and the artist was seriously injured.
Colonel Diego Pesqueira, spokesman for the National Police, confirmed that authorities have identified that second person and are actively searching for them. "At the moment we are pursuing a second person. However, the evidence being collected is what will tell us how many individuals were involved," Pesqueira said.
The spokesman indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that evidence collected will determine how many individuals broke into the residence.
First suspect surrendered in the early morning
Kevin Germán Troncoso, identified by the Police as one of the alleged perpetrators, voluntarily surrendered to authorities at approximately 3:00 a.m. on the same Wednesday. The surrender took place at the Los Mina police station in Santo Domingo Este, just hours after the institution publicly announced he was wanted under an arrest warrant.
Pesqueira indicated that Germán Troncoso is in custody and will be subjected to due process, which includes interrogations and evidence collection to support the case before the courts.
Investigation advances with the Public Prosecutor's Office
Police investigators are working in coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office to clarify the circumstances of the robbery, identify all those involved and establish responsibilities according to the law.
The case originated in the early morning hours of Monday, when several people broke into the couple's residence in Santo Domingo Este. According to the police spokesman, the robbers gagged both victims to rob them of their belongings. Zeneida Socorro Castillo died as a result of the incident, while the merengue singer was left seriously injured.
