Police recover seven motorcycles and one car in Santiago; five arrested
Police operations in Santiago resulted in five arrests and the recovery of eight stolen vehicles over a 72-hour period.

The National Police detained five individuals and recovered seven motorcycles and one car during preventive and investigative operations carried out in different sectors of Santiago and surrounding municipalities over a 72-hour period, according to elnuevodiario.com.do.
The interventions respond to reports from citizens affected by vehicle theft and form part of sustained actions to combat this type of criminal activity in the region.
On the Inoa highway in the municipality of San José de las Matas, officers detained Samuel de Jesús Jorge Reyes, 25 years old, and Luis Raúl Canario, 19, for alleged involvement in the theft of two motorcycles. During this procedure, a red Súper Gato CG-150 with no registration plate was seized. In the La Cuesta sector, a black Nipponia NB 125 Special, plate K0621797, was also recovered. The authorities are continuing their search for a third individual involved in the case.
In a separate intervention, José Bautista Reyes, 30 years old, was arrested while in possession of a Gato brand motorcycle allegedly stolen from the La Joya sector. Additionally, Matías Peña Mateo, known as "Matías", was detained while driving a 2019 TVS Stryker, in compliance with an arrest warrant issued against him.
In the Rafey sector, officers located a 2015 Kia K5 car that had been reported as stolen from the Las Mercedes sector.
Among the other recovered vehicles are a blue Honda, plate K0121026, reported from Bonao; a grey Yamaha JOG, plate K0230908, reported as stolen in Mao, Valverde province; and a black X1000 CG-200, plate N760474, linked to a theft report filed on 5 January 2026.
Regarding this last vehicle, a citizen was brought before the authorities and stated that he had purchased the motorcycle from an individual resident in Salcedo, already identified. Officers activated a search to establish the circumstances of the transaction.
The National Police indicated that those detained and the vehicles remain under the control of the competent authorities for the corresponding legal procedures, whilst investigations continue to determine responsibilities and locate other possible individuals involved.
