Police recover USD 33,690 following murder of Julián Oro Duro's wife in Santo Domingo
Four suspects have been detained following the assault on the home of merengue musician Julián Oro Duro in Santo Domingo Este, where his wife Zenaida Castillo was murdered.
Four detained and items recovered following crime in Prado Oriental
The National Police recovered USD 33,690 and RD$ 196,500 that had been stolen during an assault on the home of merengue musician Julián Sarante Perdomo, known as Julián Oro Duro, in the Prado Oriental sector of Santo Domingo Este. This was reported by infobae.com, which detailed that his wife, Zenaida Socorro Castillo, was murdered in the incident, whilst the musician sustained injuries.
Colonel Diego Pesqueira, spokesman for the National Police, presented the recovered items and the progress of the investigation during a press conference on Thursday. Four people remain in custody on suspicion of having participated in the break-in at the residence, located between the Prado Oriental sector and Santo Domingo Este.
The detainees were identified as Kevin Dariel Germán Troncoski, alias Yandel; Phillips Michael Tejada Vásquez, alias Leandro; Juan Carlos Hernández García, alias Peña; and Lawrence Mar Liranzo Marcos, alias Chiquito. The authorities link them presumptively with the crime and the assault that occurred between Sunday afternoon and Monday early morning.
According to Pesqueira, two of the suspects had close ties with the family, particularly with the merengue performer. This relationship would have facilitated access to the residence where the attack took place.
The breakdown of items recovered from each detainee is as follows: from Germán Troncoski, USD 3,750 and RD$ 88,000 were seized; from Hernández García, USD 240 and RD$ 30,500—including RD$ 2,000 found at the time of his arrest and RD$ 28,500 found during a subsequent search—; from Tejada Vásquez, USD 9,800; and from Liranzo Marcos, USD 19,900 and RD$ 78,000, in addition to watches, chains and other belongings of the couple.
The sum of dollars recovered matches the USD 33,690 reported by the institution, whilst the amount in Dominican pesos equates to approximately USD 3,309.
In addition to cash, officers recovered two watches—one of them a Rolex—, two gold chains, a medal, a guillo, a woman's brooch, a Louis Vuitton bag, a key to a Toyota vehicle and glasses. Pesqueira noted that one of the chains appears in a photograph of Julián Oro Duro himself. The Police also released images of money concealed in a flower pot, found during one of the raids.
Additionally, authorities located a customised red motorcycle in Los Guaricanos, Santo Domingo Norte, which investigators believe was used by those responsible during the commission of the crime.
Pesqueira indicated that the seizures resulted from a series of raids coordinated with the Public Ministry, carried out by agents from the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim). The detainees and the recovered items were handed over to the competent authorities for judicial proceedings. The investigation continues with the aim of establishing the sequence of events in the crime and determining the individual responsibility of each person involved.
