José Joel Matos Lenin, identified as the alleged person responsible for extorting singer Yailin La Más Viral, voluntarily presented himself to Dominican authorities on 23 September, according to reporting by univision.com. The man went to the police headquarters to face charges related to demanding money in exchange for not disseminating an alleged intimate video of the artist.
According to the complaint filed in mid-August, Yailin made a payment of 300,000 Dominican pesos—equivalent to approximately 5,000 dollars—after receiving messages demanding money in exchange for not publishing the audiovisual material. The payment, however, reportedly did not stop the threats.
Dominican journalist Ramón Tolentino reported that the alleged individuals involved would have demonstrated knowledge of the singer's daily routine, which intensified Yailin's concern, particularly regarding the safety of her daughter Cattleya. Faced with this situation, the artist decided to go to the authorities.
In late August, Yailin filed a formal complaint for alleged extortion and threats linked to the dissemination of the material. The case was placed under investigation by the Department of Investigation of High-Technology Crimes and Offences of the National Police of the Dominican Republic.
In an audio broadcast on the programme Esto no es radio show, the singer expressed her distress through Tolentino: "I am completely desperate, asking justice to please execute that arrest order and as much as me, my friends, my family, my daughter, we are not at peace until they execute that arrest order".
On social media, Yailin also spoke directly about the case: "I don't have to have compassion for anyone… Let whoever has to fall, fall. This time, the only victim is me".
Matos Lenin remained at the disposal of the authorities whilst investigations continue to determine possible criminal liability in the case.
