Two black vans violently intercepted a lorry carrying 23 tonnes of maize on the Santo Domingo bypass on the night of Friday 18 September 2026, at around 23:00, according to elcomercio.com. Armed individuals stopped the vehicle as it travelled through the Noche de París sector in the Quevedo-Quito direction, and took the truck, the agricultural cargo and the driver to an unknown location.
The following day, Saturday 19 September, the owners of the product and the vehicle filed a formal complaint with the authorities. With the information gathered, preventive and operational units deployed tracking tasks that made it possible to locate the heavy transport in the Valle Hermoso sector.
Following the leads led agents to the facilities of an importing company, where they verified that the 23 tonnes of maize were already completely stored in a warehouse. The officers proceeded to load all the merchandise back onto the truck for transport under formal security to the relevant authorities.
During the operation at this commercial establishment, Javier Estuardo E. M., aged 38, was arrested. The suspect has no criminal record. The suspect, the recovered cargo and the heavy vehicle were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities.
Judicial investigations remain open with the aim of identifying and apprehending the rest of those involved in the robbery.
