Suspect surrenders in connection with death of Josué Méndez in Los Alcarrizos, km 14 Duarte highway

According to elnacional.com.do, a man of approximately 29 years of age presented himself voluntarily to the National Police on Friday night as an alleged perpetrator in the death of Josué Méndez Gómez, aged 44, which occurred that same afternoon on the roadside at kilometre 14 of the Duarte highway.
The detainee, identified as Wander de la Cruz Polanco, surrendered to Colonel René Eurípides Luna Kunhardt, regional director of Santo Domingo Oeste (Z-8), through the intermediation of broadcaster Domingo Adames, producer of Sucesos Alcarrizos Noticias and vice-president of the National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH) in the municipality of Los Alcarrizos.
De la Cruz Polanco is listed as one of at least two people preliminarily identified in the case. According to initial accounts, Méndez Gómez appears to have been a victim of a robbery in which he sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was robbed of his motorcycle.
The victim resided in Herrera, worked as a courier and was the father of two children.
Following his surrender, De la Cruz Polanco was placed at the disposal of members of the Department of Criminal Investigations and Homicides of the National Police. Investigators are carrying out inquiries at the crime scene, collecting evidence and gathering information with the aim of establishing the circumstances of the crime and determining responsibilities.
The investigation remains open. Authorities expect that the inquiries will allow them to clarify the facts and identify all those involved, including the second person identified in the case.
