Armoury of Los Choneros discovered in Guayaquil: three detained and 18 weapons seized

The National Police discovered a clandestine armoury installed in a residence in the La Garay sector of Guayaquil, according to vistazo.com. The operation, carried out on 1 May 2024, resulted in the detention of three people and the seizure of 18 firearms.
Specialised officers, supported by investigative work and human sources, raided the building which allegedly served as a storage and trading point for weapons for criminal activities, including contract killing, armed robbery and extortion.
The operation, called "Atlas", resulted in the apprehension of Julio J., Wilson M. and Alex A. Two of them have criminal records for various offences. The three suspected individuals were placed in the custody of the competent authorities.
Among the evidence found in the building were 14 pistols, 2 revolvers, 2 shotguns, 14 magazines, 9 cartridges and 2 mobile devices.
The detainees are believed to belong to the terrorist group Los Choneros, one of the country's most active criminal organisations. Its leader, Adolfo Macías Villamar, alias "Fito", remains a fugitive from justice after escaping from a Guayaquil prison.
