An armed confrontation between officers of the National Police and criminals occurred on the night of 19 September on Ruta Viva, in the rural parish of Tumbaco, in Quito, according to eluniverso.com.
The alert was logged with ECU911 at 22:29, when citizens reported a suspected vehicle theft on that thoroughfare. Police units responded immediately and initiated a continuous pursuit in search of those responsible.
During the course of events, an exchange of gunfire took place. Videos released on social media by bystanders allow the sound of detonations to be heard whilst the police unit maintained its siren active. Several pedestrians had to seek shelter to avoid being struck by the projectiles.
At the conclusion of the pursuit, police succeeded in apprehending one individual allegedly linked to the incident, as well as intercepting a vehicle platform. The authorities have not provided additional details about the operation or about the detainee.
