Four arrested for murder and dismemberment in northern Guayaquil

The General Public Prosecutor's Office filed charges against four alleged perpetrators of the murder and dismemberment of a citizen that took place on Monday 25 March in the Balerio Estacio Housing Cooperative, in northern Guayaquil, according to reporting from vistazo.com.
During the flagrancy hearing held at the Cuartel Modelo Judicial Unit, the prosecutor in the case presented an informative report and arrest record, body removal records, complaints, identifications and statements from the apprehending officers. The flagrancy judge ordered preventive detention for Andrés Sebastián S. P., Wilson Xavier M. V. and brothers Miguel Ángel and Erwin David J. M., and ordered their transfer to the Litoral Penitentiary. A fiscal investigation period of thirty days was established.
Body found in rubbish bags
Staff from the Directorate of Violent Deaths, Criminal Investigation and Judicial Police arrived at the scene following the report. The victim's body had been dismembered; anatomical parts were found inside rubbish bags disposed of in a landfill near the sector.
The investigation was activated after a person identified the victim, who had disappeared that same morning whilst heading to a nearby sports field.
Municipal cameras and police operation
Through security cameras installed by the Municipality on avenues adjacent to the crime scene, authorities identified the characteristics of the vehicle and clothing of the perpetrators. The National Police deployed an operation to locate and apprehend the driver, Wilson Xavier M. V., who was detained in block 15 of Bastión Popular. Under interrogation, he provided information regarding the whereabouts of the other suspects involved.
In Flor de Bastión, officers raided a two-storey apartment building where Andrés Sebastián S. P. was neutralised. In his possession, a 9mm industrial calibre firearm was found, a magazine with no identifying marks or serial number, a personal computer, five mobile phones and a radio frequency device, among other evidence.
Brothers Miguel Ángel and Erwin David J. M. were captured in the Paraíso de la Flor sector. Mobile phones and a communications radio were found at their residence.
Possible settling of scores between criminal gangs
Preliminary investigations suggest that the motive for the crime could be a settling of scores between criminal gangs. The Public Prosecutor's Office is proceeding with the case under article 140 of the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code, which provides for sentences of between twenty-two and twenty-six years imprisonment for the offence of murder.
