Twelve arrested in Guayaquil, including police officers, for evidence tampering
The Public Prosecutor's Office conducted 16 raids across various sectors of Guayaquil and arrested 12 people, including civilians and active and retired police officers, for alleged illicit association.

The Public Prosecutor's Office led an extensive operation across various sectors of Guayaquil, Guayas province, in the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in the detention of 12 people. According to expreso.ec, those apprehended include civilians, National Police officers on active duty and retired police personnel.
The investigation points to an alleged structure dedicated to evidence tampering involving materials held in police custody. The Public Prosecutor's Office is also investigating the possible illegal removal and commercialisation of vehicles and auto parts stored in impound yards.
During the procedure, 16 raids were executed at different points throughout the city. The operations were concentrated in the sectors of La FAE, La Pradera, Vergeles, Alborada and the National Police's multifamily housing blocks.
Officers seized mobile phones and documentation linked to the investigation, along with other evidence to be analysed as part of the proceedings. The Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the evidence gathered will be incorporated into the case file to determine each of the detainees' involvement.
The 12 people will remain under the custody of the authorities whilst the corresponding procedures are carried out. The Public Prosecutor's Office must present the evidence obtained before the judicial authority to define the precautionary measures that apply.
The legal status of those apprehended will be resolved in the coming hours. The investigation continues with the aim of establishing individual responsibility and determining whether there are others involved in the alleged illicit association.
