Ecuador's National Police, in coordination with the DEA and the United States Southern Command, dismantled a criminal organisation allegedly linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), according to excelsior.com.mx. The operation, carried out in the early morning across three provinces, resulted in the detention of 30 people, Interior Minister John Reimberg confirmed.
The operations were concentrated in Guayaquil, Daule, Samborondón, Ventanas, Babahoyo, Puebloviejo, Vinces and Machala, localities in the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos and El Oro. More than 320 agents from the National Police and 50 members of the United States Southern Command participated. Among those arrested were ringleaders, financiers and operators of the network.
Authorities clarified that the organisation did not maintain links with local gangs, but rather had a direct connection with the CJNG. The investigation, which lasted nearly eight months, determined that the network controlled the collection, intermediation, distribution, transport and marketing of large volumes of drugs from Colombia, destined for Central America, the United States and Europe, using the ports of Guayaquil and Machala.
Operations against this structure have generated an estimated economic impact of approximately 322 million dollars in drug shipments seized throughout the year.
Reimberg stressed that international cooperation was decisive in dismantling the network and reaffirmed Ecuador's commitment to combating transnational organised crime. President Daniel Noboa, through his X account, recognised the joint work with United States authorities to confront "an enemy that crosses borders".
