Woman charged in armed attack that killed 16-year-old in north Guayaquil

A 16-year-old adolescent died on 15 October 2026 after being shot in the Florida Norte sector, north of Guayaquil, whilst travelling in a taxi with his mother near his home. According to elcomercio.com, both were caught off guard by an armed attack; the mother crouched down upon hearing the gunshots and, when she stood up, discovered that her son had been hit by the bullets.

Investigative work and analysis of surveillance camera footage enabled agents to identify a woman as a suspected person involved in the crime. The suspect, identified as Rosa Abigail M., was located and detained during an operation carried out at her residence.

During the procedure, the authorities found a motorcycle, two helmets and items of clothing which, according to preliminary investigations, had allegedly been used by the attackers. These items were incorporated into the investigative process to determine their possible connection to the attack recorded in Florida Norte.

Following the corresponding hearing, a judge imposed alternative measures to pre-trial detention for the accused: periodic appearances before the competent authority and prohibition from leaving the country.

The investigations continue to clarify the circumstances of the crime and determine the degree of participation of Rosa Abigail M. and of other possible persons involved in the case.
