Operation 'Apollo 35' in Guayaquil and Durán: 22 detained, weapons and stolen motorcycles seized

22 arrested in overnight police operation in Guayaquil and Durán

The National Police deployed operation 'Apollo 35' in the early hours of Friday, 16 October across the districts of Nueva Prosperina, 9 de Octubre, Esteros and Sur in Guayaquil, as well as in Durán, according to reporting by vistazo.com. The objective was to weaken and dismantle criminal networks active in those areas.

Juan Carlos Soria, acting commander of Zone 8, confirmed the arrest of 22 people: 17 men and five women. A minor was isolated during the procedure, and two foreign nationals in irregular migration status were identified; both would be deported in accordance with instructions from the competent authority.

Among the evidence seized were seven firearms—some with long-range capability—22 motorcycles reported as stolen, five recovered vehicles and substances subject to regulatory control. Police also found bottles of adulterated liquor in at least one of the residences raided.

One of the procedures is linked to a contract killing recorded in the Florida district. Soria stated that officers located a residence with elements allegedly associated with the crime, including motorcycles and helmets that two people implicated in the incident would have used. One person was arrested and placed at the disposal of the competent authority.

In the Esteros district, four people were detained in flagrante delicto for their alleged involvement in the theft of a delivery vehicle.

In the Portete district, Cisne circuit, police arrived at a residence after receiving citizen information channelled through QR codes, where they found bottles of adulterated liquor.

Soria also noted that in several of the residences raided, security cameras were found which, allegedly, were being used to alert occupants to the approach of authorities.

The institution specified that the interventions form part of the 3D Operational Strategy, aimed at dismantling criminal structures and strengthening community security.
