Security operation in Socio Vivienda 2: weapons, drugs concealed in toys and fortified sector

Security Bloc dismantles fortified point in northwest Guayaquil
The Security Bloc intervened in the early hours of Monday 28 September, around 02:00, in a sector of the Socio Vivienda 2 neighbourhood in northwest Guayaquil, according to primicias.ec. The operation revealed a site equipped to anticipate and obstruct the entry of law enforcement.
An adult was apprehended and a minor was isolated. The Police linked both individuals to the custody of weapons and ammunition found at the location.
Barriers, cameras and alert system
General Walter Villarroel, commander of Zone 8, described the sector as practically "fortified" during a press conference held at the Cuartel Modelo de Guayaquil. Between six and eight metal barriers blocked access to the site.
These barriers were complemented by closed-circuit television to monitor the exterior. Villarroel also noted that residents of the sector itself operated an alert system to warn of the arrival of police or military personnel. This infrastructure forced the Security Bloc to design the entry strategy in advance to prevent the escape of those present at the site.
Weapons and drugs concealed in toys
Among the seized evidence were a rifle, a nine-millimetre pistol and ammunition. Controlled substances were also seized: some stored in hidden compartments and others portioned out and concealed inside cardboard boxes full of toys, including dolls and toy vehicles.
The Security Bloc presented the evidence at the Cuartel Modelo de Guayaquil on the same Monday, 28 September.
Background: armed confrontation on Saturday
The operation stemmed from an armed confrontation recorded on Saturday 26 September in Socio Vivienda 2. Following that incident, the Police gathered information on the possible perpetrators and coordinated with the Armed Forces on an intervention strategy.
Military uniforms and investigative lines
During the raids, clothing and uniforms similar to those used by members of the Armed Forces and investigative units of the National Police were also found. Villarroel indicated that these items will be compared with previous investigations, given that in Zone 8 and other parts of the country crimes have been recorded in which those responsible allegedly posed as police or military operatives.
The Police activated investigative units to determine whether the evidence is related to previous criminal acts. The commander anticipated that the Security Bloc will continue carrying out interventions in other sectors of Zone 8. The authorities did not specify which organised crime group the detainees might be linked to.
