Second Corporal David Guadalupe Serrano was murdered at noon on Friday 18 November through an assassination, according to vistazo.com. The uniformed officer was leaving a supermarket in the Monte Sinaí sector in Guayaquil, accompanied by his wife during one of his days off.

Four men on motorcycles approached the officer and shot him repeatedly with firearms, according to witness accounts from people present at the scene.

The Unit for Violent Deaths (Dinased) and the Forensics division travelled to the scene to conduct investigations. Several ballistic traces were collected within the perimeter established by authorities.

The crime occurred within the framework of the state of exception declared on 1 November by President Guillermo Lasso in the provinces of Guayas, Esmeraldas and Santo Domingo. The measure was adopted in response to a series of attacks perpetrated by criminal gangs that had caused the deaths of five police officers in Ecuador.
