A man was shot dead on 7 October in the Mapasingue Este sector in north Guayaquil, according to primicias.ec. The crime occurred a few hours after a robbery at a security company that sparked a police pursuit on the Perimetral highway.

The victim, identified by neighbourhood residents by the alias 'Fox', was driving in a blue vehicle when two hitmen opened fire from a motorcycle. According to preliminary information, the driver is believed to have managed to run over one of the attackers before dying; the assailants fled the scene, one of them wounded.

The incident occurred on a road used as a shortcut towards the sectors of Urdenor and Urdesa in the north of the city.

Personnel from the Legal Medicine unit removed the body and transferred it to the Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Guayaquil, where an autopsy will be carried out. Criminalistics officers and other police units conducted procedures at the scene of the attack.

The crime sparked alarm among residents of Mapasingue Este, who came out of their homes but made no statements to local media out of fear, according to reports cited by primicias.ec.

As of the time this report went to press, authorities had not informed of any arrests nor established the motive for the murder. Family members of the victim remained in the area during the forensic work.
