Hitman tracks alias 'Cónsul' from sports field before executing him in Daule

Néstor Gilberto Montalván Rubio, 41, known as alias 'Cónsul', was killed in the afternoon of 29 October 2026 on León Febres Cordero avenue in Daule, according to primicias.ec.

The crime was recorded on video. The victim was travelling in a vehicle when two men intercepted him and opened fire on the driver. Passers-by who were in the area stopped and filmed the moment when the attackers riddled Montalván Rubio with bullets.

One of the suspected perpetrators reportedly disguised himself as a footballer to follow alias 'Cónsul' before the attack, according to a report by RTS channel. The suspect reportedly entered a sports field where the victim was with his son and wife. From there, according to RTS, he would have sent a photograph to confirm the surveillance.

Subsequently, the individual reportedly received the order to execute him, allegedly issued from a prison in Guayaquil. The hitman then boarded a motorcycle and attacked alias 'Cónsul' near the entrance to the Villa Club urbanisation in La Aurora parish.

Around 15 ballistic traces were collected at the attack site. The victim's wife was also reportedly wounded during the incident.

Authorities are investigating whether the killing responds to a settling of scores. Alias 'Cónsul' was identified as the suspected leader of a criminal organisation operating in Pascuales, in the north of Guayaquil. The victim had a criminal record for drug trafficking and homicide.

The crime occurred whilst the Guayas province maintained an active state of exception, and less than a week before a curfew came into effect in that province as well as in Manabí, Los Ríos, El Oro and Esmeraldas.
