Court rejects suspension of Lenín Moreno's prison sentence for Sinohydro bribes
An Ecuadorian court unanimously rejected a request to suspend a five-year prison sentence imposed on former president Lenín Moreno for receiving bribes from Chinese state-owned enterprise Sinohydro.

A Guayaquil court rejected on Tuesday the request to suspend the execution of the five-year prison sentence imposed on former president Lenín Moreno (2017-2021), according to infobae.com. The conviction stems from the receipt of bribes from Chinese state-owned enterprise Sinohydro to facilitate the financing of the construction of Coca Codo Sinclair, the country's largest hydroelectric dam.
The judges rejected the request unanimously. Along with Moreno, eleven other people faced the same petition, including his wife, Rocío González; his daughter, Irina Moreno; and his brothers Edwin and Guillermo, sentenced to two years and six months in prison for bribery.
Through the suspension, the convicted individuals sought to avoid imprisonment in exchange for compliance with conditions and obligations set by the courts. The tribunal ruled out that possibility.
