On the afternoon of 3 June, law enforcement officers from Läänemaa detained a 19-year-old of Ukrainian origin in Haapsalu. He is linked to a scheme in which criminals extort money from people.

The incident began that day when a local resident received a call claiming to be from a medical institution. The caller requested the patient's personal identification number and passport details, allegedly to book an appointment. A second call followed, in which the caller identified himself as a law enforcement officer. He stated that the first call had been part of a scam and that the victim's financial accounts had already been emptied.

Authorities are asking anyone who has suffered losses due to the actions of the young man pictured to contact them at [email protected].
