Two pensioners in Ida-Viru lost a combined €45,000 to scammers after trusting unknown callers.

Ida-Viru police received a report from a 75-year-old man who said that unknown callers had posed as bank employees and investigators. They managed to convince the man to hand over his bank card to a courier. Once the card was in their possession, his account was emptied of €22,000.
A second case involved an 89-year-old man who received a call at the end of April allegedly from a hospital. The caller asked him to send his samples and passport details. Later, another person contacted the man, claiming to be a police officer. He forced the man to give €20,000 to a courier. A couple of months later, the man was asked to withdraw more money and hand it over to a courier who arrived at his home. Through this scheme, the man lost €22,600.
The combined losses of both victims exceed €44,000.
