A 75-year-old man approached law enforcement to report calls from individuals who presented themselves as bank employees and investigators. They persuaded the man to hand his bank card to a courier. It later emerged that 22,000 euros were withdrawn from his account using the card.
A second victim, an 89-year-old man, received a call at the end of spring in which the caller claimed to be from a hospital and asked him to send his test results and passport details. After this, someone who identified himself as an official called him and persuaded the man to give 20,000 euros to a courier. A couple of months later, he was asked again to withdraw cash and hand it to a courier who arrived at his home's front door. Through this scheme, the man lost 22,600 euros.
In the same region, two more incidents occurred on the evening of 9 July. In Narva, an unknown man ran after children with something resembling a knife. Law enforcement officials searched for an individual matching the description but did not find one. Further details are being investigated in the course of criminal proceedings.
On the same day, law enforcement responded to a call in Narva where a 41-year-old man had assaulted his companion. The suspect was taken into custody.
