Law enforcement officers detained a 21-year-old man with Polish citizenship in Jõhvi municipality on 17 June. He is suspected of involvement in fraud that took place in cities in Ida-Virumaa – Sillamäe and Narva – where he acted as a money courier.

The prosecutor applied to the court for the man to be held in custody for two months. The court approved this request.

When the man was apprehended, a substantial sum of cash was found in his possession – approximately 17,250 euros in total. It is believed that he obtained these funds from people who fell victim to the fraudsters. Police already know the identity of most of the rightful owners of the money. Work is currently ongoing to identify one additional victim so that everyone can be returned what belongs to them.
