In the court proceedings of a serious traffic accident on Tallinn's Laagna Road, in which Isa Khalilov is the accused and which resulted in the deaths of three people, the prosecution raised for the first time an expert assessment of satellite navigation logs. The Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) does not collect data on how often such analyses are used in traffic incidents.
The authority has long used satellite system data and video camera recordings to monitor the location and speed of vehicles. In order for these materials to be taken into account in court, an expert assessment prepared by EKEI specialists is necessary. In the investigation of Khalilov's case, such a document was completed for the first time.
"This is not merely information from a navigation device, but also, for example, images from a video recorder," commented PPA press spokesperson Leana Loide.
