On the evening of 15 February this year, a tragic crime took place in Eavere village, located near Are. A 46-year-old man was killed, his life ended by his 29-year-old relative Meelis Annusver. The case documents describe the act as "particularly cruel and painful".
An investigation was conducted to clarify the events, which has now been concluded. New details show that money transfers were made from the victim's account on the same night the killing occurred. The prosecutor has presented suspicion that these transfers were either carried out under duress from the victim before his death, or were made by the perpetrator himself.
Yesterday, 14 July, Pärnu District Court held a preliminary hearing to discuss the further proceedings. It was decided that the final court ruling would be delivered on the Day of Wisdom, 1 September. The court decided to keep the suspect in custody and rejected his request for release. The man, who connected via video from Tallinn to the preliminary hearing, had expressed a wish to leave prison, but this request was denied.
