Jevgeni Rabotinski, who is accused of extensive drug trafficking and organised crime, has been released after spending over five years in custody. An electronic device will monitor his movements until the court ruling becomes final.

Harju County Court decided to release Jevgeni Rabotinski, who according to the initial court ruling faced over 17 years in prison. The man was held in custody during the preliminary investigation and court proceedings from December 2020, totalling over five years.
Authorities apprehended Rabotinski on 15 December 2020, accusing him of dealing in large quantities of prohibited substances and leading a criminal structure. The following day, acting on a court order, authorities also arrested his suspected associates Svjatoslav Borissov, Aleksandr Pukhov, Vitali Svitin and Lithuanian national Laurynas Žutautas.
Although the court of first instance imposed a lengthy prison sentence on the main suspect, he nevertheless found his way to freedom following the prolonged pre-trial detention. Until the ruling becomes final, he must wear an electronic ankle monitor, which enables his location to be tracked.
